This subject consists of two units, Unit 3, which asks How does experience affect behaviour and mental processes? and Unit 4, which explores How is wellbeing developed and maintained?. Each of these two units includes two areas of study: Unit 3 asks 'How does the nervous system enable psychological functioning' and 'How do people learn and remember?', while Unit 4 asks 'How do levels of consciousness affect mental processes and behaviour?' and 'What influences mental wellbeing?'. There is a third area of study in Unit 4, which is the Practical Investigation.
Assessment: Each unit has three SACs (School Assessed Coursework) tasks and these contribute 40% to your overall study score at the end of the year (20% from Unit 3 SACs and 20% from Unit 4 SACs). There is also a final exam in the October/November exam period, which accounts for 60% of your study score. In the past, the exam has consisted of multiple choice questions, short answer questions and a research scenario, which has short answer questions associated with it. At this stage VCAA have not released details of the structure of the exam for the new study design. The exam goes for 2 1/2 hours and you also have fifteen minutes reading time at the beginning of the exam. HEADSTARTHere is the link to the Headstart pre-test :)
